Jane Goodall
Jane Goodall, the legendary English primatologist, ethologist, anthropologist, and UN Messenger of Peace, has inspired millions worldwide through her dedication to wildlife conservation and advocacy for a better world. Her vision and commitment continue to make waves, and I’m deeply grateful for both her remarkable work and the friendship we share. Since 2012, my wife Nelly and I have been honored to serve as ambassadors for the Jane Goodall Institute, collaborating with Jane on various photography projects and capturing her unique spirit through my lens.
Portrait Photography with Purpose
People often ask me in interviews how I prepare for portrait sessions with notable personalities, especially icons like Jane.
I leave nothing to chance. Creating a compelling portrait requires more than technique; it’s about understanding and connecting with the person. In a fraction of a second, an impactful portrait reveals something deeply personal and authentic about its subject. Capturing that moment, coaxing it out of someone, and then pressing the shutter at precisely the right time—this is where true artistry lies for me.
An Inspiration to Change the World

A Thoughtful Approach to Image and Expression
My creative process for a portrait session begins weeks in advance. I develop concepts, thinking about expressions and poses that might best reflect the person I’m photographing. Often, I sketch out ideas to share right before the shoot, so the person can visualize the final image. For me, communication and rapport with the subject are essential, helping to foster a comfortable environment where emotions can unfold naturally.
Finding Depth in Every Frame
Portrait photography, at its core, is not just about technical perfection. It’s about the depth of feeling in each frame. A striking image is defined by its emotional impact rather than just sharpness. It’s this emotional resonance that I strive to achieve with every shot.
As Jane often reminds us: “Every day, we have the opportunity to decide the impact we want to make on the world.”
What kind of footprint do you want to leave behind?
